The Kentucky Fried Chicken Foundation believes in making a difference in the lives of those who are willing to work hard and improve themselves through education. Since 1998, the non-profit Kentucky Fried Chicken Foundation has helped one of the world’s most recognizable brands give back, thanks to the widespread and ongoing support of KFC franchisees and KFC Corporation.
Inspired by Colonel Harland D. Sanders’ legacy and his belief in the importance of determination, passion and philanthropy, the KFC Foundation has a rich and diverse charitable giving history. Today, the Foundation is primarily focused on helping provide educational opportunities through scholarships and grants for post high school education programs. Since 2006, the Foundation has awarded over $11 million in scholarships and educational grants to deserving students.

PROGRAMS

Through its new REACH-KFC Educational Grant Program, which helps KFC restaurant hourly Team Members and Shift Supervisors pursue their educations, the Foundation is helping to make KFC a place that stands for something, a place to grow, and a place to belong. From technical schools to graduate degree programs and everything in between, in 2013 alone, the Foundation is assisting 508 Team Members across the country achieve their educational dreams.
The $2,000 grants help recipients attend four-year or two-year educational institutions. Winners are selected via a competitive application process and may reapply year after year.
**The next REACH application window will be in early 2014.**
Through the KFC Colonel’s Scholars program, the Foundation continues to distribute scholarships to over 200 winners &emdash; high school students with an entrepreneurial drive and demonstrated financial need who want to pursue a college education.
** The Foundation currently is not accepting applications for this program.**
Through the KFC Feeds program, the Foundation also provides assistance to the victims of large-scale natural disasters by donating hot meals via churches, community centers and “on the ground” disaster relief organizations.

Thangamayil Jewellery established on 1947, by Mr. N Balusamy Chettiar, father of our founder members Mr. Balarama Govinda Das, Mr. Ba. Ramesh and Mr. N.B. Kumar. A modest propreitory concern initiated in the name of Balu Jewellery @ Swami Sannathi Street in Madurai. On having a firm control in the operations, he handed over his legacy to his sons (founder members), during the late seventies. Further relocated the showroom to South Aavani Moola Street, in a 100 sq. ft. premises.

Jewellery care
 
1.   Try to guard your jewellery from scratches, harsh blows, chemicals, extreme temperatures and sunlight.
 
2.   It is important to remember that every piece of jewellery needs to be cared for in a special way. Ideally, two pieces of jewellery, especially diamonds, should not be kept in the same box so it doesn’t scrape against each other. Wrapping smaller items of jewellery individually in tissue paper before keeping them in a box safeguards them against scratches.
 
3.   When playing sports or doing household chores such as gardening and cleaning, be certain to remove rings and other jewellery.
 
4.    Avoid wearing jewellery when swimming in a pool. The chlorine can cause damage to various gemstones and gold.
 
5.    Put your jewellery on after applying any makeup, hair sprays or perfumes.
 
6.    Make sure that stones mounted on rings are not loose. The prongs of a ring can wear down or break over time. Prongs are easily re-tipped to keep the stones intact.
 
7.    Sterling silver is prone to tarnish. It can be polished by rubbing or buffing with a soft cloth. Silver stored in sealed plastic pouches are less prone to tarnish.
 
8.    Do not wear gold jewellery while bathing or cleaning. Soap won’t harm gold, but will leave a film of residue that will coat your jewellery leaving it less lustrous.
 
9.    Jewellery can be cleaned with commercial jewellery cleaners or with a soap and water (without chlorine) solution. Brush the solution on your jewellery with a small soft brush and rinse with lukewarm water. Jewellery set with gemstones need professional cleaning by a jeweller and should not be cleaned by this method.
 
10.  Use a chamois cloth to wipe your cleaned jewellery. This is a safe and gentle way for returning the lustre to your jewellery. It’s often a good idea to establish regular contact with us, since we will be able to advise you about repairs and caring for your jewellery. Any new piece of jewellery that you treasure and love may become a family heirloom over time.

The original name of the shop was “Shanmugam Stores” operating from an area of 720 sq.ft., at door no.36, Ranganathan Street , originally selling only household vessels made of aluminium, brass, copper, iron, and stainless steel, with a staff strength of only 10.
By the year 1976, with the business expanding, the second shop under the name “Saravana Stores” (the name that became later, almost a synonym for T.Nagar – a prime retail market hub) at door no.13, Ranganathan Street – a three floored building operating from a floor space of about 6000 sq.ft. area, selling household vessels with a staff strength of 60.

In 1978, the entry to textiles business was made under the name “Shanmugam Textiles”, at door no. 36, Ranganathan Street, with the floor space of the business expanding to 1500 sq.ft.

Around this time, Dr.Y.Navaratnam deciding to pursue his professional interest left the team, with the rest to carry on the business interests with even more zeal and steam.

By the year 1983-84, Saravana Stores business had grown, operating now on a floor space of about 18,000 sq.ft. area, spread over a three storeyed building.

April, 1987, saw the birth of another shop, selling textiles with the focus on sarees, situated at door no.45, Ranganathan Street. By September, 1987, other textile items got included with the business growing, and by the year 1990, the shop included the readymade textile items.

The year 1993 saw the commencement of the Jewellery division at 14, Ranganathan Street. They say in Sales: If you can’t compete…at least corrupt and confuse the customer. That was experienced with the induction of this jewellery division. With the growth & the popularity, came along some disparaging & damaging remarks, and a negative propaganda about the quality of the gold jewellery sold by Saravana Stores, raised in the marketplace by some vested interests, to thwart and confuse the customers who were offered some excusive customer friendly deals such as offering gold in Chennai at Bombay rate. Undaunted, but responded to this situation with a masterly stroke! How? By being a pioneer and installing a Gold Carat Meter(Unheard-of in this part of the country at that time) at their jewellery shop premises in 1994. An open challenge made to anybody to check & confirm the true quality of the gold sold which was declared to be 91.6 purity (which was not conformed by even by some big names around that time!). Thus it amply proved by Saravana Stores, that an unjustified criticism can also be a blessing in disguise!

With the expansion of textile goods business during the year 1994, warranted the addition of door no.44, Ranganathan Street, and for the first time products such as bags & footwear items were included.

The year 1996 saw the jewellery division getting bigger & better, and alongside Saravana Stores experimenting with purified bottled water business, setting up sweets & savories sections, and opening restaurants offering food & refreshments at very affordable & attractive rates.

The year 1998 saw the addition of adjoining door no.43, to accommodate the business expansion of their existing operations of textile business at door nos.44 & 45, Ranganathan Street.
